The
Thesis Project proposes to rejuvenate the film industry in the city
as a result of its decay towards the end of the twentieth century. The focus of
the Thesis is based around the theories and techniques in
film and how they related to the physical appropriation of space. These interests developed into looking at how
the movement of bodies in space affect how we perceive it and this then
expanded into the idea of a Kinematic Landscape.
By
looking at film and exploring the techniques that are used in its production an
architectural language was established that incorporated the essence of these
elements. This then drove the design narrative that followed in deciding the
spatial qualities of the project. As a result of these interests the project
developed into a Film House and Kinematic Landscape that would be used as a
learning tool for the city. The proposal was that the Kinematic Landscape would
convey the motion of bodies in space that is evident in both the optical and
mechanical areas of film.
